Preventative Curriculum
At Queen Elizabeth II Primary School, our preventative curriculum reflects our commitment to being a warm, welcoming and caring Christian rural school built on the values of respect, responsibility and resilience. It is a planned, proactive and responsive framework of learning experiences, policies and school culture designed to keep children safe, healthy, resilient and fully prepared for life. The ETI defines the preventative curriculum as the blend of what schools do to keep pupils safe; what pupils learn about emotional wellbeing, relationships, health and safety; and the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to make informed, responsible choices.
Our preventative curriculum directly supports our school vision “to nurture and educate each child to achieve their full potential” and our mission to create a happy, caring and safe learning environment; promote independent learning; celebrate every child’s achievements; and ensure a quality, inclusive education responsive to pupil voice. It is intentionally designed to develop the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. Through carefully crafted lessons, workshops and assemblies, delivered by dedicated staff and trusted external partners, we empower every child to become a confident and capable individual who can thrive in an ever?changing world.
This holistic approach is woven through our school motto: Kind Hearts, Brave Minds, Bright Futures—guiding pupils to treat others with compassion, act with courage and integrity, and aspire towards their brightest possible future. Our Child Protection Policy reinforces that schools must teach emotional wellbeing, health and safety, relationships and moral thinking, and explore sensitive issues in age?appropriate ways to help pupils develop protective behaviours. This is delivered through PDMU, RSE, WAU, RE, ICT, our school values, pastoral assemblies, safeguarding and wellbeing initiatives, and the inclusive, community?centred ethos that underpins all aspects of school life.
